"If I am allowed to catch only one fish, let it be the Pavon" Cichla temensis - the largest of the genus The Peacock bass (Cichla spp.), a native of tropical South America is in actual fact a cichlid. Called the Pavon or Tucunare in their homeland, they gained the common name because of their basslike shape and peacock feather `eyes' on the caudal fin. Considered by many to be the world's greatest freshwater game fish, this magnificent and largest member of the Cichlidae family has been successfully introduced into Central America, Hawaii, Florida, Puerto Rico and Guam for sport fishing. The current IGFA World Record rod and line capture 27 pounds fish caught in Rio Negro, Brazil, by Oklahoman, Gerald `Doc' Lawson. The charm of the Peacock bass was made known to the world through an article in TIME Magazine entitled The New Fishing Frontier. Peacock bass has been bred in captivity for some years now in Taiwan and Indonesia mainly for the aquarium trade. Some ponds in Malaysia and one reservoir in Singapore was known to have been either intentionally or unwittingly stocked with fish that were originally imported for the aquarium. Fish sold as Cichla ocellaris in the aquarium trade may turn out to beCichla orinocensis or the smaller Cichla monoculas. Being aware that the paths we choose and our ultimate destinations are as individual as each person. Since its inception in 1996 I have received many comments on this website. What has, and continues to, amaze me are the many references to the term "new age" in relation to some of my experiences. I personally see nothing "new" about my lifestyle. In point of fact my studies, which have resulted in many positive changes, are based on time honored lessons that afford a greater extent of Peace. I have not only enjoyed hearing from visitors over the years, I have also found feedback to be very helpful in improving this site. Please take a moment to sign the guestbook, or email me with any comments, questions or concerns. This site was updated on February 7th, 2006 and is in a state of constant momentum as I continue to experience and embrace life.     My Spiritual Paths Saints Tips for Natural Living Tea Leaves Soapmaking My Fibre Adventures Voice for the Voiceless Words of Wisdom Sunday

Merry Meet, I Am Emily Welcome to my little part of the web. WOW, it's been a really long time since I updated this. So I figured I'd give it a whirl again. Who am I ? I am a voluptuous woman, daugher of the goddess and god. I am a vegetarian, college graduate, with a degree in technical theatre, and massage therapy. I love my earth mother and treat her with upmost respect. Been working as a massage therapist for a year now, and still loving it. Also, at this point in life I am a wiccan who follows a Celtic Path. There's more, but hey, this page is mainly focused on my spritual path of Wicca. So, What the heck is wicca? Well, for a short explanation, Wicca is an earth based religion. It's a faith focused on a balance of masculine "God" and feminine "Goddess" energy. Wicca is a polytheistic religion, meaning we believe in and worship many gods and goddesses. One common belief that most wiccans hold is called the Wiccan Rede, "An it harm none, do what you will." There are many paths that wiccans follow. For more info see my wicca page. Also try my Wiccan/Pagan Site of the Month The Witch's Voice, It will give you really great info about Wicca, and other Pagan paths. It has a great section on locating other pagans in your area. It's just a great page. Please check it out!! Within my forest you can find pages about all sorts of stuff. Like my own Book of Shadows. (It's kind of like a Witch's Diary) Also included are pages on topics as theatre, music, art and more. I'm a artsy chick, what can I say. Anyway, you are welcome here. Please use the guestbook for comments or you can email me with your thoughts. And for a Little More About Me Well, I really have to run. As always, please enjoy my little crevice on the web! Peace and Love! Last
This photo was taken by Trudi Blom on one of her first expeditions into the Lacandon Rain Forest in 1943. photo by G. Blom Contents Who are the Lacandon Maya? The Lacandons are the indigenous peoples of La Selva Lacandona in Chiapas, Mexico. They refer to themselves as the Hach Winik, meaning True People in their language. Their culture is inseparable from the Lacandon Rainforest where they have lived for hundreds of years. It is sometimes claimed that the Lacandons are the direct decendants of the classical civilizations of Palenque, Yaxchilan and Bonampak. More likely, their ancestors came to the jungle of south eastern Chiapas to escape Spanish colonial domination during the 17th & 18th century. Their exact origins are unclear and there are cultural and linguistic differences between the northern and southern groups. Historically, the Lacandons lived independently in small clans dispersed throughout the vast and unoccupied jungle. In this way they survived by avoiding detection or contact with foreign diseases. The Hach Winik remained connected through intermarriage, shared traditions, religious beliefs and a common language. Until early in this century they lived secluded in the rainforest developing a culture uniquely adapted to their environment. As late as the 1940's Lacandon culture was still beyond the influence of Christian missionaries. Today, in the village of Najá, the elder Lacandons continue to inspire the community with unique mythological stories, dream interpretations, rituals and agricultural principles that are purely Mayan. Numbering no more than 500 today, they have had to face unprecedented changes in the wake of the massive frontier settlement and deforestation of Lacandon Rainforest since the 1950's. SAVE THE WORLD'S SMALLEST COMMERCIAL FISH History Discovered and founded by Spanish exploring party led by Captain Pedro de Chavez and Franciscan Father Tomas Francisco on April 14, 1578, Buhi is in Southern part of Camarines Sur province in the Bicol Region. Its world-famous Lake Buhi, the habitat of the Sinarapan, earth's smallest commercial fish, was formed out of Mt. Asog's eruption on January 4, 1641 which, according to historical accounts, buried beneath said lake the first inhabitants of the town. The present Buhinons are the descendants of the refugess and survivors who also fled from the wrath of Albay's Mt. Mayon when it erupted on February 1, 1814 hence the town's name nakaBuhi which means the one that got away or escaped. Its rain forests, towering mountains, verdant hills, fields and valleys, singing brooks, springs, streams, rivers and waterfalls are intact for discriminating tourists, nature lovers, mystery hunters, futuristic investors and carping artists to explore and perhaps enrich. YES, Buhi is a watershed, a national park in the making with a Baguio like climate, destined to be nearest to your heart and countenance. Now either you may be a weary traveller, a restless soul, a surrendering poet, a never-satisfied-adventuring businessman, an avid searching investor, a nature drinker, an unaffected child of the universe, one who cannot tolerate anymore a deteriorating plastic world, a tired fellow of city life's everybody humdrums, or you reached up early the end of your rainbows who feels getting away but nowhere to go. There is a place for you. BUHI, "the Beautiful, the Bountiful" Buhi means escape. Away from the wrath of it all. It's so remotely near. Hidden for centuries. A world famous unknown. A paradise preserved. Unspoiled. Quite ruggedly tamed. Believed to be a prehistoric caldera. A mystery. A paradox. A challenge. An oppurtunity. A jewel. Malauyay! To explore. To discover. To be a part of you. Pick your choice: An excursion at the cascading waterfalls of Itbog, Baybay, Binangkaan, Pitong Sagurong, San Rafael, and Sinillaran. A magical climb to Mt. Asog via its seven lakelets and enchanted Sarikaw. An adventure hike to Asupre Spring of Iraya. A moonlight truce over Lake Buhi. Attend the town fiesta on May 24-25 each year. Have a picnic at Buluang Springs and medicinal waters of San Vicente or at Antipolo's Pungol and Minabangka Springs. Or simply be alone with your family, lovers or friends at Magindara Resort, Punta Esmeralda, La Roca Encantada and Paayahayan along the lakeshores, or wherever you wish for there are myriads of wonderful places to go and unique events to enjoy all year-round in Buhi. EarthCulture Sues Over Fiberboard Mill! EarthCulture is a nonprofit organization promoting a sustainable Earth. We work for livable cities, diverse wilderness areas, and the rights of all life through education and nonviolent direct action. EarthCulture was started in 1995 by a small group of activists working on tropical rainforest issues. Over the years, we have continued to keep forest defense as our primary focus, but are involved in other campaigns, and are constantly looking for new ones- particularly in our native Southeast United States. Please get in touch if you have any suggestions. We are mainly involved in market-based campaigns aimed at changing American purchasing habits. It is noble to fight deforestation by physically blocking logging operations or working through legal channels to stop timber sales, but ultimately, what we buy drives the destruction of ecosystems. We are asking consumers to reduce their consumption of oil, gold, coffee, bananas, beef, wood products like mahogany, teak, redwood, and paper products, and other items which have a high ecological cost. Please take a look at our updated website and check out what we are involved with. If you like what you see, you can send us a tax-deductible donation or contact us for more information on how to get involved in your area. We are always looking for people everywhere interested in helping organize a demonstration, informational table, fundraiser, or even an EarthCulture chapter, please get in touch with us. "Dedicated to conservation through information and education." MARTHA "The last passenger pigeon" Died at 1:00 pm September 14, 1914 At the Cincinnati Zoo CURRENT STATUS EXTINCT The Passenger Pigeon may be the only species for which the exact time of extinction is actually known. With Martha's passing, all future encounters with Passenger Pigeons will be limited to static images in books and photographs. 'Tis a sad legacy we leave our children. Extinction is forever. Passenger Pigeons were once the most abundant bird species on Earth. In the early 1800s, their populations contained more individuals than all the other North American birds combined. Passenger Pigeons were so plentiful, the sky literally turned black when the birds took to flight. A single flock may have consisted of more than 2 billion birds. Passenger Pigeons were a very popular item on the dinner menu, and were widely sought after by hunters as a game bird, and for sport. The birds were harvested in quantity, and made easy targets because of the large, congregating flocks during migration and nesting. No restrictions were ever placed on the harvest. There were no bag limits, no regulated hunting season, nothing...ever. As a result, their populations soon collapsed. Overharvest is considered the primary catalyst that led to the extinction of the Passenger Pigeon. Once their numbers had declined, factors like natural mortality, and the loss of habitat due to commercial development quickly pushed them over the edge, unable to sustain viable breeding populations. In a short 50 years, their numbers plummeted from billions of birds to one lone survivor. She was named "Martha" in honor of George Washington's beloved wife. She died alone in captivity at the Cincinnati Zoo. MARTHA'S SHRINE A Chilling Reminder Of What Could Happen The Passenger Pigeon looked very similar to a Mourning Dove, only larger, and without the black spot on the side of the neck. The head and rump of the Passenger Pigeon was slate blue, the back was slate gray, and the breast was a red wine color. Males were brighter in color than females. Today, there are many species whose entire existence hangs in the balance. Their fate depends on whether or not WE choose to allow the species to go extinct. What choice will you make? Click on "Martha's" photo to learn more about the biology and extinction of Passenger Pigeons. Turn on the TV for more information about The Earthwave Society, and our mission statement.

One must always remember, each grower has differing conditions - what works for one may not work for another. Consider carefully before amending current techniques, and always try new ideas on a few plants - never the entire collection. When using pesticides/fungicides/fertilizers and other products, ALWAYS follow package directions which should indicate it is safe for orchids. In the archives you will find personal comments on methods used...remember, what works in one area of the country may be diastrous in another. Also, never forget the CARDINAL RULE OF ORCHID GROWING: whenever you try a new product, potting mix, method, try it on a few orchids first...never commit your entire collection! there! My name is DEVIL WOLF!! And I would like to welcome you to my page. "WHERE'S MY CIGARETTE??" The Wolf's main source of communication comes from the facial expressions. This wolf is showing aggression by curling it's lips back, exposing the fangs and holding the ears erect. MIRROR MIRROR in the water..... Wolves don't avoid water (unless it is too turbulent). In fact some wolves have been seen swimming for no particular reason but perhaps just to have fun. Look! The engraved rocks were discovered in June 1995 by José Pilerio, a Vila Nova de Foz Côa researcher In this area (and also in most Côa Valley areas) it is easy to find many vertical red surfaces of Xisto Grauvaquico Ante-Ordoviciano, a sedimentary metamorphosed rock. The rocks are very well preserved, not eroded, only (sometimes hardly) affected by the natural detaching of (sometimes large) blocks along the schist fractures... messages to AARP - Associacao de Arte Rupestre Portuguesa Footsteps of Man Visited this page Thanks to and go to the RainForest GeoPage this document was managed by aarcalast update 9-8-1996

Red Fox Arctic Foxes Bat-Eared Fox Fennec Fox The fox is a mystical creature that is held in high regard and admiration by many of the indigenous American cultures. Here you can learn more about our vulpine friends and hopefully gain a greater appreciation for them and their ecological place in the world. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the new face of Moraxion's Fox site. As our regular visitors can see we have made a significant number of changes that I hope will make the site easier to use and more welcoming to the first-time visitor. I have provided this in the event that you may wish to know more about Moraxion. He is a vulpine on FurryMUCK created by Ryan Hanisco. You can get in touch with Moraxion at:
Awards I won Webrings joined My Guestbook Lotsa links Send feedback Go back Home When mankind first inherited the Earth, it was abound with greenery and living creatures. Man was supposed to live in harmony with nature and preserve the Earth for generations to come. However as civilizations grew and progressed, man soon forgot his debt to nature. He started to destroy beautiful natural habitats in his quest for wealth, power and progress. Preservation of nature was the last thing on his mind. All this has set the scene for the environmental problems we face today Large scale fishing mining, hunting, logging, land clearing and industrialization have resulted in environmental disasters. Only now have we become conscious of the extent of destruction to our environment. 'Conservation', 'endangered species', 'recycling' and 'pollution' are now hotly debated topics. Too much fishing and consumption of marine life may cause the depletion of an important source of food. Uncontrolled mining could result in the depletion of fuels and minerals. A declining supply of food and fuels will affect human existence as these are essential needs in our lives. Hunting and poaching endanger the existence of wildlife and may cause the extinction of rare animals. Presently, statistics show that forty to fifty species of animals perish and vanish from the face of the Earth each day. As the food chain is slowly broken, even more animals and plants will face extinction. Logging and industrialization are the main contributing factors to pollution. With the destruction of our rain forests - the "Earth's lungs" - the Earth is slowly losing its supply of oxygen. Each year, an area of rain forest the size of Switzerland disappears as trees are chopped down for wood and land is cleared for development. Factories built near rivers and streams often channel their waste into them, polluting the water. Toxic fumes emitted from factories are released into the atmosphere. The resulting pollution of both our water and air are health hazard leading to contaminated drinking water and respiratory problems. These affect not just human beings but other living creatures as well. Chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) used in spray aerosols and refrigerators are damaging the ozone layer, a think blanket of ozone gas 25km above the Earth. There is now a hole the size of the United States of America and global warming is a very real problem today. Mankind, now painfully aware of the environmental problems, has founded various organizations such as the World Wildlife Fund, Greenpeace and the Nature Conservancy to save the Earth. Tougher laws with stiffer penalties to protect our environment have been made by concerned countries. Campaigns have been launched to make people aware of the importance of conserving the environment. Environmentally friendly items which are recyclable and biodegradable are now the trend. Everyone has to play his role. To save the Earth, and make it a better place for our children. Mankind has to think of the consequences of their actions. Is the Apocalypse approaching? Hi there my name is Joëlle I am also known as Sunshine on ICQ :). I'm 44 years old and work as Office Manager for a H & R Block. I live in Northwestern Ontario in Canada. I'd like to take the time to thank you for visiting my Home Page. I am a fun loving person and love meeting new people. I love reading, baseball/softball, music, reading, and plan on doing some travelling in the very near future. I travelled to England here are few pics and really enjoyed my trip, it is a great place to visit. I have also been lucky in visiting North Carolina a nice place to visit. I did a lot of traveling in 2003. My daughters, my nephew and my dog Cubby went to visit my sisters in Alberta and British Columbia. Can you imagine all 5 of us in a Pontiac Firefly. It was sure packed but we enjoyed ourselves immensely. My nephew had never been in that area so it was something new for him as well as my girls and I had never gone past Alberta. We were all happy to have gone and hopefully we manage to go again soon. Then in August, my girls and I drove to New Brunswick to visit friends and family. The weather was great and the sites were even better. We stay in Cassie Cape and visited the dunes and many other places. We returned home just in time for school. This was a great experience for us all. Hopefully we are able to do this again very soon. I have a new passion, my girls & I have started Karate it is Tsuruoka Karate. My goal was to obtain my Black belt which I succeeded in doing in December 2004. My girls are both green belt. I am also taking online courses which I am working toward a new degree "Business Administration - Accounting". So I've been keeping busy with my girls, homework and Karate. Hopefully things will continue in this nature. I am also taking a course called "Small and Medium Size Business Counselling through APEC/IBIZ. I have to go to Montréal to take this course. I have one more time to go which is in May 2005. I'm looking forward to it. Now all I will have to do is work on my portfolio. Hopefully I will be able to get these done within the next year. I'd also like to thank my good friends Harmey, Miss and Foreverman for helping design my page. Thanks again if it wasn't for you I wouldn't have learned how to do all this. Oh yeah...and I have a few pictures that you may want to take a look at...be prepared to be afraid :) Sunshine's Pic's, my daughters and here are links to pics or home pages of a few of my good friends.
